BEHIND THE SCENES

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes of our Draws?

Here’s an overview of the steps and procedures we undertake every week to deliver our Lotto draw. As you can see, it's never a dull moment!

In the morning of the weekly draw, the Lotto Operations team runs a series of checks on all the equipment that will be used during the Draw.

This includes the computers that will be used to extract the tickets and pay the winners, spotlights, TV monitors, video and audio mixers and the draw machine.

An hour before the draw, the auditors arrive with the two balls sets and their independent laptop.

An encrypted list of the tickets entered in the draw is burnt to a CD and the CD is handed to and signed by an auditor. This CD is the definitive list of tickets entered in the draw. The auditors verify the list on the CD using the laptop.
A coin is flipped to select the ball set to be used. In the Lotto broadcast studio, the chosen ball set is checked for completeness. Balls are loaded into the ball machine and at least 2 test draws are performed. If the same number appears in both the 2 test draws, the whole test is repeated. If after 5 tests, the same number appeared 5 times, the ball set is replaced with the 2nd ball set and the test is restarted.
A seperate video camera records the Draw for insurance purposes.

Balls are drawn and the show is broadcast with a virtual studio background and recorded on video.

During the draw, an auditor records the winning numbers, enters them in the laptop and records the number of winners.

After the draw, a Lotto Operation staff member enters the winning numbers into the database, and the auditor verifies the winners.

The winners are paid. A full audit report of the events of the draw is produced.
